Bear, Schlitz, In The Woods

,

Perhaps the somewhat sophomoric title of this, Bear, Schlitz, In The Woods, makes it seem a little less serious, but what if you say it, or ‘hear’ it, in the voice of Werner Herzog? Pretty heavy, huh? It suddenly goes from being based on a snarky affirmation to a philosophical thought experiment that raises questions concerning observation and perception. Yeah, I was skeptical too, but it sounds so good, it has to be true.

Materials:

  • c. 1950s Alps mechanical drinking bear (it’s affixed to the base with magnets so the batteries can be changed…but only the eyes light up)
  • c. 1960s Schlitz mini beer bottle (it was probably a salt/pepper shaker)
  • a couple of old pine trees I assume are from a model train set
  • an acacia wood charcuterie board (this must be a pretty hard wood because it was a bear, pun intended, to burn the title and my signature on it)
  • 1/2 an old textile spool
  • the base to an old, large brass candlestick holder
